Lakewood - Turning a Plumbing Emergency into a Dream Bathroom Remodel

When these homeowners first found us through a Google search, they were dealing with a classic homeowner's nightmare: a leaking toilet that had completely rotted out their bathroom subfloor.

Initially, they just wanted a fix. We easily could have patched up the plumbing, replaced the compromised toilet flange, laced the floor back together, and called it a day. But as a contractor, my job isn't just to patch over an issue, it's to listen to what a homeowner truly needs from their space.

As we talked through the repair, the real challenges with the room came to light. It was the only bathroom in the house with a shower, but it didn't have a bathtub. Even worse, the layout felt incredibly cramped and tiny. Since we already had to tear up the floor and expose the plumbing, I realized we had a golden opportunity to give them the functional, beautiful bathroom they wanted.

Instead of a quick patch job, we completely re-engineered the space:

• Smart Layout Adjustments: We swapped out the existing shower for a proper bathtub. While the toilet plumbing was exposed, we shifted it over just a few inches—giving them enough clearance for a much larger vanity without sacrificing code-required spacing.

• Creative Space Borrowing: To tackle the storage issue, we framed in a brand-new linen closet by borrowing a few square feet from the neighboring primary bedroom.

• Improving the Flow: We leveled out the uneven floor and even reversed the swing of the bathroom door so it no longer jammed up the hallway traffic when open.

• Light and Bright Finishing Touches: To make the footprint feel twice its size, we installed a large, bright mirror that bounces light around the room.

The clients took the lead on choosing the finishes, and their taste was spot on. Everything came together into a highly polished, seamless look. What started as a stressful subfloor repair turned into a beautiful, functional asset for their home—and that is exactly why we love doing what we do.
